Description

The U.S. Department of State’s Embassy in San Salvador invites past participants (alumni) of U.S. government-funded or sponsored exchange programs to apply for the 2026 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF). This annual funding opportunity is designed to amplify the U.S. government’s return on investment in exchange programs, advance policy goals, and strengthen the U.S. government’s relationship with exchange alumni.

AEIF provides funding for alumni-led projects that turn the skills and knowledge gained during exchange experiences into practical solutions for challenges facing their communities. Since 2011, the program has funded hundreds of alumni projects worldwide that promote innovation, leadership, and community development. AEIF increases the impact of the U.S. government’s investment in exchange programs by helping alumni develop and implement projects supporting U.S. policy objectives and promoting shared interests.
All 2026 AEIF projects must celebrate and promote the U.S. government’s Freedom 250 initiative marking 250 years of independence and align with policy goals such as making the United States safer, stronger, and more prosperous. Projects must take place outside the United States and advance U.S. interests in security, economic prosperity, and/or partnership with El Salvador.

The program seeks proposals from teams of at least two eligible alumni. Projects must focus on security, economic prosperity, education and skill development in fields of economic importance to El Salvador and the United States, community building to disincentivize criminality and illegal immigration, or leadership aligned with U.S. interests. Suggested activities include workshops, training sessions, networking events, mentorship, collaborative programs, and other efforts strengthening the U.S.-El Salvador partnership advancing a secure and prosperous hemisphere.
