Description
This Project is part of a larger effort to restore function to the Great River Railroad that runs from the Port of Rosedale to the Columbus and Greenville Railroad (CAGY) in Metcalf, MS. The larger effort is divided into two Phases. Under this Agreement, the Project will complete environmental review for both phases. Additionally, this Project will complete preliminary engineering, final design, and construction activities for Phase 1 of the larger effort. Under this Agreement, Phase 1 activities will include preliminary engineering, final design, and construction activities to repair the 31 mile railroad to be a functional track for maintenance equipment by replacing ties (approximately one-third of the timber rail ties), repairing 33 grade crossings, installing additional supplemental ballast rock, resurfacing track, repairing 4 timber bridges, replacing 1 timber bridge with culverts, and installing 1 concrete culvert.
Phase 2 of the restoration effort is anticipated to include installing approximately 31 miles of new 112–115-pound rail, additional tie replacement, the replacement of 4 bridges, and improvements to sidings (Port of Rosedale spur) in order to restore the track to a full operation. Besides environmental review, this Agreement does not fund activities for Phase 2.
Successful completion of the Project will enhance resiliency and redundancy for both the Port of Rosedale and the wider region.
